At Ao te Pō, we know the cost of living is tough and birthdays can be a big pressure for many whānau. That’s why we created the Mokopuna Koha Kollection.


This collection is all about giving back. When you make a koha, we gift a tee & hoodie birthday pack to a tamaiti from a whānau needing a hand up.


You can choose to koha a full item or just contribute what you can, every dollar counts. We charge the bare minimum to cover production, do all the labour for free, and make no profit from these sales.


This is our way of uplifting our people, one birthday at a time.

Want to help? It’s easy:

1. Visit the MKK page on our website.

2. Choose a koha option — full tee ($15), hoodie or crew ($35), or smaller contributions ($1–$10).

3. We combine all koha received that month to create birthday packs for selected tamariki.

100% of your koha goes towards producing and gifting kākahu. We make no profit, and all labour is done for free.

Are you a whānau who needs a hand?

You can apply the month before your tamaiti’s birthday using our simple form.

At the start of each month, we match as many tamariki as possible with full birthday packs based on how much koha was received the month before. All we ask in return is that you take a photo of your tamaiti and tag us in it on your social media.

• A tee of your choice from our Whānau Collection

• A Toitū te Tiriti hoodie in a colour of your choice.

This isn’t a charity, it’s a kaupapa Māori solution driven by aroha, manaaki and kotahitanga.

How to Apply for a Birthday Koha?

If you or someone you know is struggling to provide a birthday gift for a tamaiti, we’d love to help.


To apply, send an email to info@aotepo.com with the subject line:

MKK Application – [Child’s First Name]


Please include the following details:

• Full name of tamaiti

• Age they’re turning

• Birthday date

• Clothing size

• Hoodie colour (Black/Grey/Beige)

• Delivery address

• Your contact name & number


Koha are gifted monthly, and numbers are limited, gifts are given on a first in, first served basis. Priority is given to whānau who haven’t received a koha from us before.
